Free and legal ways to stream live sports in 2026

Free live sports usually come with a catch, but there are more legal free options in the 2026-27 season than most people use. Some cost nothing at all. Others are free with conditions, such as living in a team's home market or watching practice rather than the race. This is what is actually available as of October 2026, and what each option covers.
A TV antenna covers more than you think
Broadcast TV is free to anyone in range of a transmitter, and the big four networks carry a large share of this season's biggest games:
- NFL: CBS and FOX Sunday afternoon games, NBC's Sunday Night Football and the Monday night games that ESPN simulcasts on ABC. Super Bowl LXI, on February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium, is on ABC.
- NBA: NBC's share of the 100 NBC and Peacock games, including Tuesday doubleheaders, and ABC's Saturday primetime games from December 12.
- College football: Saturday games on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and The CW, plus College Football Playoff games on ABC, including the national championship on January 25, 2027.
- MLB: the World Series on FOX, starting on Friday, October 23.
- UFC: the numbered events that Paramount chooses to simulcast on CBS.
To see which stations reach your address, use the FCC's DTV reception maps, which rate each channel's signal as strong, moderate, weak or none. The FCC's predictions assume an outdoor antenna about 30 feet above the ground, so an indoor antenna will usually pull in fewer stations. A consumer review published by Scripps TV stations suggests trying an indoor antenna first if you live within about 20 miles of the towers, making sure it receives VHF as well as UHF, and rescanning for channels every time you move it. The models it tested cost from about $11 to $81, and it found that a pricier antenna does not fix a bad location.
Local teams on free TV
Several NBA teams now put their local games on broadcast stations. In Phoenix, 71 Suns regular-season games are exclusive to Arizona's Family, airing on 3TV and the Arizona's Family Sports stations, with the October 24 home opener against the Golden State Warriors on CBS 5. Streaming those games on the Suns+ app costs extra, but the over-the-air broadcasts do not.
In Cleveland, 15 Cavaliers games this season air free on WOIO, WUAB and the Rock Entertainment Sports Network, and the same games are simulcast on the DAZN app, which needs only a free account. These deals vary a great deal by team and market, so check your own team's website for its 2026-27 local TV plan before paying for anything.
Free sessions inside paid apps
Apple TV has been the only US home of Formula 1 since the start of 2026, and every practice session streams free in the Apple TV app, with no subscription. Qualifying and races need the $12.99 monthly plan, which comes with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Six races are left this season, from the United States Grand Prix in Austin on October 23-25 to Abu Dhabi on December 4-6, so a trial started on the Friday of one race weekend covers the whole weekend. Set a reminder to cancel if you do not want to keep it.
Free ad-supported streaming services
Free ad-supported apps carry a growing number of sports channels, but most of what they show is highlights, studio shows and replays rather than live games. Live events appear when the company that owns the app also holds the rights. Tubi, which belongs to Fox, streamed the 2026 World Cup opening ceremonies and two group matches, Mexico vs. South Africa on June 11 and the USA vs. Paraguay on June 12, free in 4K. Samsung TV Plus, another free service, has added several sports channels, though what they carry live depends on deals that change from season to season. It is worth opening these apps' sports sections before big events, but do not count on them for a full season of any league.
Cheap options that come close to free
- Sling sells a $5 day pass that includes ESPN, which can cover one big Monday night game.
- SiriusXM's Sports Pass is $5 a month for live NFL radio calls.
- Paramount+ Essential, at $8.99 a month, includes every UFC numbered event and Fight Night, with no pay-per-view fees.
- Peacock Select is $8.99 a month but leaves out live sports. The cheapest Peacock plan with sports is Premium, at $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year.
Which free option fits which fan
| If you follow | Start with | What it will not cover |

| Formula 1 | Free practice in the Apple TV app | Qualifying and races |
| UFC | The cards Paramount simulcasts on CBS | Every event not shown on CBS |
What "free" stream sites actually cost
Sites that show every game for free without a licence live off advertising, and researchers have looked closely at what that advertising does. A 2016 study by KU Leuven and Stony Brook University, covering more than 850,000 visits to 5,685 free live streaming domains, found visitors were exposed to deceptive ads, malware, malicious browser extensions and scams. In the summer of 2026 the Justice Department seized more than 1,000 such domains during the World Cup, and officials said that reducing the malware risk to consumers was part of the reason.
CrackStreams lists each day's games with their start times, which helps when you are planning around the free broadcasts. See the NFL, NBA, college football, UFC and F1 pages. If free options do not cover your team, how to watch live sports without cable compares the paid ones, and CrackStreams alternatives in 2026 lists the official home of each sport.
